About

At our innovative, young lab we are devoted to both basic and applied research in the field of Computer Vision, or in other words: We teach computers to “see”.

Computer Vision comprehends the natural world through images, image sequences, and films and reconstructs its properties, such as shape, illumination, and color distributions. The theoretical backbones at CVL are Object Recognition, Document Analysis, 3-D Computer Vision, Motion Detection and Tracking, Multi-Spectral Imaging (MSI), and Machine Learning (Neural Networks, Adaptive Methods, Deep Learning) which we employ in applied research in areas like Cultural Heritage Preservation, Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), Medical Imaging, Image Sequence Analysis to name a few.

Computer Vision Lab has been playing an important role in various national and international research activities: Apart from participation in international research circles and scientific conferences, CVL coordinates an ERASMUS-programme and has over the years (co-)organised a number of peer reviewed international Computer Vision conferences, namely AAPR (2000, 2010), DAGM 2005, EVA (2006, 2008), CAIP 2007, VSMM 2009, DocEng 2016, DAS 2018 and Visual Heritage 2018. In addition, we have demonstrably acquired vast experience in running and leading municipal, national, and European projects.

The research Unit Computer Vision is part of the Institute of Visual Computing and Human-Centered Technology.
