TU Wien Informatics

About

The research unit works on all aspects of the Internet, ranging from protocol development, over system and network security, to Internet measurements and how people operate it.

Key topics include:

  • Large-scale Internet Measurements: Measuring how fundamental Internet protocols (DNS, SMTP, BGP, etc.) are currently used on the Internet, and which challenges they face.
  • IPv6 Adoption: Work on proliferating the adoption of IPv6, but also measuring the state of IPv6 adoption and readiness of services.
  • Security & Threat Intelligence: Developing new methods to identify threat actors on the Internet, enabling targeted mitigation
  • Human Factors: Investigating how humans collaborate to ultimately make the Internet, and finding ways to improve, e.g., security posture by creating inclusive environments
  • Cloudification & Digital Sovereignty: Measuring the growing dependence of societies on a small number of service providers, and drawing guidelines as to how society can retain its ability to build, maintain, and restore the digital infrastructure it relies upon.

The research Unit Internet lnfrastructures is part of the Institute of Computer Engineering.
