About

The Helmut Veith Stipends and the International Student Awards honor the legacy of Helmut Veith (1971–2016), a distinguished computer scientist whose work spanned logic, computer-aided verification, software engineering, and security. A dedicated mentor and advocate for women in the field, Helmut’s vision continues through this support for the next generation of researchers. The Vienna Center for Logic and Algorithms (VCLA) serves as a central pillar of this mission. The Center was founded by Stefan Szeider and Helmut Veith, who led the organization together until Helmut’s passing in March 2016. In December 2017, Agata Ciabattoni was elected as the new co-chair, dedicated to carrying forward Helmut’s and the VCLA’s commitment to scientific excellence.
