Visual Computing for a Better Future
Dean Gerti Kappel and her team visit longstanding partner VRVis – one of Austria’s leading research centers for visual computing.
On 22 June 2022, Dean of TU Wien Informatics Gerti Kappel and her team professor Wolfgang Kastner and professor Peter Puschner visited VRVis. TU Wien Informatics and VRVis have been closely connected since establishing the research center in 2000 and are looking back on many years of successful cooperation.
During the visit, the researchers of VRVis gave an insight into current projects and research fields during a morning of selected demos. The presentations included AI solutions in various fields. From train platform edge segmentation to radiological diagnostics - as well as virtual reality applications for the simulation of visual impairments, digital tools for the automotive industry or planetary research in the current Mars mission, and flood simulations, which provide information on the risk of flooding throughout Austria in the HORA3D project. The Dean’s team was excited about the versatility of VRVis research endeavors.
In addition to the status quo, future research plans were on the agenda of the meeting. The cooperation of TU Wien Informatics and the COMET Competence Center VRVis enables current research and innovation for tomorrow’s issues. Especially young researchers are benefiting enormously from the joint effort.
Visit VRVIs for news on their research and events. On 30 June 2022, Dean Gerti Kappel will be part of a panel discussion on sustainabilization in tech hosted by VRVIs.
