Leonardo Mariani: “Towards Field-Testing”

The TU Wien Informatics Doctoral School and the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CAIML) invite to a talk by guest professor Leonardo Mariani.

Public Lecture

Abstract

Thoroughly testing software systems in-house can reduce but not avoid failures, due to the complexity of software applications and the many behaviors that emerge in production and that can be hardly predicted and exercised during development. To address the characteristics and size of modern software systems, the testing activity can be conceived as an activity that crosses the boundaries of in-house testing and that must be performed perpetually, while the software is operating in the field. Indeed, testing software in the field poses a range of research challenges. This talk will overview some of these challenges and present initial results obtained in the domain of field testing.

About Leonardo Mariani

Leonardo Mariani is Full Professor and Director of the Phd Program in Computer Science at the University of Milano - Bicocca. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science received from the same university in 2005. His research interests are in the area of software engineering, in particular software testing, program analysis, automated debugging, specification mining, and self-healing and self-repairing systems. He has authored more than 100 papers appeared at top software engineering conferences and journals. He is regularly involved in European and National projects. He is currently the Coordinator of the PRIN National Project EMELIOT “Engineered MachinE Learning-intensive IoT systems”. He has been awarded with the ERC Consolidator Grant and the ERC Proof of Concept grant. He is regularly involved in the organization of major software engineering conferences. Recently, he has been the General Chair of MOBILESoft 2022 and Program co-chair of ISSRE 2021.
