20 Years, 3 Deans, 1 Goal.
Visionary leadership and achievements have shaped our journey. Our dean’s contributions are instrumental in steering our Faculty towards a shared goal: excellence in computer science research and education.
Celebrating 20 years of TU Wien Informatics makes me proud. As the current Dean, I have the joy of fostering a space where curiosity meets innovation. Our Faculty isn't just a place of learning; it's a community where each byte and algorithm weaves our shared story. From late-night coding sessions to breakthrough research and spin-offs, we've grown together. This milestone isn't just an achievement, it's a testament to our collective passion and perseverance in shaping the future of technology. Thank you for your hard work, your dedication and unwavering commitment to excellence. Here's to many more years of creating!
Reflecting on the journey of our Faculty, the role we play in shaping the intersection of technology and society is more crucial than ever. The Digital Humanism Initiative, established at our Faculty in 2019, has now grown into an international movement, reflecting our belief in the symbiosis of technology and humanistic values. It's essential that our innovations in computer science go hand-in-hand with ethical responsibility. Our role extends beyond technical mastery to shaping a future where technology serves us all. As we celebrate this milestone, let's remember our commitment to a fair and humanistic digital world.
From being one of many subjects within the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Informatics has grown into the second largest Faculty at TU Wien. Life in the 21st century is defined by information and communication technologies. Innovative computer science solutions are of fundamental relevance to a great number of complex societal problems. The Faculty's researchers are well aware of this responsibility and are creating the necessary basis for future innovation with application-oriented fundamental research. Our graduates put these innovations into practice: in business, industry and start-ups.

Who We Are
In twenty years, we shaped a generation of computer scientists. We are proud of our staff, and of the excellence and commitment they demonstrate as scientists, in the classroom, and in their role as mentors, organizers and supporters.
We are now ranked within the top computer science faculties in the world, and strive to constantly improve. This is not least possible because of the great achievements made by our predecessors at TU Wien – from the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute to Heinz Zemanek and the Mailüfterl.
Today, we are committed to excellence and to society. We not only create technology for people, but stand by our responsibility to shape a democratic, inclusive and safe digital world.
The PhD program opened my eyes to how exciting and inspirational research can be. It let me put my foot into many doors that led to research stays abroad, highly interesting collaborations and internships. Through my studies I got to work on cutting-edge technology with the brightest minds.
Studying Logic and Computation gave me deep insight into complex and automated problem solving going beyond mere application of artificial intelligence tools towards a well-founded, lasting understanding of the technology that is shaping our society today and for the foreseeable future.
Throughout my BSc, MSc, and PhD journey at the TU Wien Informatics, I had the honour to meet and be supported by brilliant minds, awesome colleagues, and kind individuals. Their encouragement and camaraderie propelled my career forward, allowing me to achieve seemingly impossible milestones.
