Visual computing can do more than make data visible. It improves decision-making, translates research into practice, and enables concrete solutions to the major challenges of our time.

With the VRVis Visual Computing Award, VRVis, Austria’s leading research center for visual computing, recognizes outstanding application-oriented research projects from Europe.

VRVis is looking for scientifically grounded methods, tools, or systems that use visual computing technologies to address societally relevant challenges. A demonstrable transfer component is essential: submitted projects should have been tested, validated, deployed in a real-world application context, or developed in collaboration with application partners. Under the motto “Visual Computing for Good,” the award highlights projects that make visual computing applicable to areas such as sustainability, health, climate, education, safety, inclusion, the responsible development of key technologies, or other important issues for the future.

The VRVis Visual Computing Award was established in 2023 and is presented every two years. Endowed with EUR 5,000, it recognizes an application-oriented visual computing research project from Europe that combines scientific quality with transfer and sustainable impact. A representative of the winning project will be invited to the award ceremony held as part of the VRVis symposium “Visual Computing Trends” on January 28, 2027, in Vienna, where they will present the project in a short award talk.

If we have sparked your interest, apply by September 30.
