Sigrid Stagl is scientist of the year 2024!
On January 7, Sigrid Stagl was recognized as Scientist of the Year 2024 by the Austrian Club of Journalists for Education and Science.
Sigird Stagl has been recognized as Scientist of the Year 2024 by the Austrian Club of Journalists for Education and Science (Klub der Bildungs- und Wissenschaftsjournalist:innen). The award honors Stagl for her scientific work on the energy crisis and other key social issues relating to climate change.
Sigrid Stagl is an economist at the Department of Socioeconomics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, and specializes in issues of sustainable labor, ecological macroeconomics and socioeconomic theories of action. Stagl received her PhD at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York, where she was awarded the world’s first doctorate in Ecological Economics. After an extended research and teaching period at the British universities of Leeds and Sussex, Sigrid Stagl was appointed professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in 2009, where she founded the Institute for Ecological Economics. She was appointed as head of the Competence Center for Sustainability Transformation and Responsibility (STaR) in 2019, and she is a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
