Eduard Gröller, full professor at our Research Unit Computer Graphics. He has been heading the visualization group at VC&HCT for the last 25 years. The group performs basic and applied research projects in all areas of visualization, like biological data visualization, illustrative visualization, information visualization and visual analytics, medical visualization, perception in visualization, and visualization in the material sciences.

He has given lecture series on visualization at various other universities (Tübingen, Graz, Praha, Bahia Blanca, Magdeburg, Bergen) and is currently a key researcher of the VRVis, Austria’s leading research institute in the field of Visual Computing.

Most prestigious honor in the field of visualization The IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Community (VGTC) Technical Awards program recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the community through their research. Considered the highest and most prestigious honor in the field of visualization, the IEEE Visualization Academy has inducted 32 computer visualization leaders into the Academy and recognizes researchers who have made substantial contributions to the field of visualization. The 2019 Visualization Academy inductees were officially inducted into the IEEE Visualization Academy at a special Induction Ceremony held at the IEEE Visualization Conference (IEEE VIS 2019) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.

“The Visualization Academy inductees are the top research leaders of the field of visualization who have had extensive impact on the field and its applications,” says James Ahrens, Chair of the IEEE VGTC. The VGTC is a formal subcommittee of the Technical Activities Board (TAB) of the IEEE Computer Society, that provides technical leadership and organization for technical activities in the areas of visualization, computer graphics, virtual and augmented reality, and interaction. The IEEE VGTC Visualization Technical Achievement Award was established in 2004. It is given every year to recognize an individual for a seminal technical achievement in visualization - congratulations, Eduard!
