Carlo Ghezzi and Nicola Leone received Academic Commendation

To honor their contributions to and achievements in Informatcis, TU Wien Rector Sabine Seidler conferred the degree “Doctor honoris causa” (Dr. techn. h.c.) on Carlo Ghezzi and the title ”Honorarprofessor” (Hon.Prof.) on Nicola Leone .

About Carlo Ghezzi

Carlo Ghezzi is a Professor and Chair of Software Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. He has been the Rector’s delegate for research, past member of the Academic Senate and of the Board of Governors, and past Department Chair. He is an ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow, Member of Academia Europaea, Member of the Italian Academy of Sciences (Istituto Lombardo). Carlo has been awarded the 2006 ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Service Award, and is a former President of Informatics Europe. He served on the evaluation board of several international research projects and institutions in Europe, Japan, and the USA. Currently, he is an Associate Editor of Communications of the ACM, Science of Computer Programming, Service Oriented Computing and Applications, and Computing.

About Nicola Leone

Nicola Leone is Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Calabria since October 2000. From 1995 to 2000 he was Professor at the Technische Universitaet Wien in Austria and previously Researcher at the CNR (National Research Council) and the CRAI. He was Director of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science until October 2018, and currently holds the position of Coordinator of the Research Doctorate in Mathematics and Computer Science . His research spans between Artificial Intelligence and Databases, with particular attention to ‘Answer Set Programming’ (ASP) and the use of Logic for the Representation of Knowledge and Reasoning. He designed the DLV artificial intelligence system used in universities and research centers around the world. The DLV technology was also tested at CERN in Geneva and at NASA to plan space shuttle maneuvers. He is Chairman of the Steering Committee of LPNMR (Logic Programming and Non Monotonic Reasoning), and a member of the Steering Committee of JELIA. He chaired the program committees of numerous international conferences, and was “Invited Speaker” at various conferences around the world. He is a fellow of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI).
