  • Social Responsibility

The upcoming public talk “LogicLounge” in New York on July 15, 2019 will be livestreamed by the Internet Society – The New York Chapter at 23:00 Vienna time.

  • All day event.

The speaker at this LogicLounge, Eva Galperin, is the director of cybersecurity at Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which champions user privacy, free expression, and innovation through impact litigation, policy analysis, grassroots activism, and technology development. She will address the concerns of the malicious software which with an aim to monitor and control a targeted person is widely available on the internet for affordable prices. These capabilities can afford dramatic powers and control over an individual’s everyday life. Surveillance apps for private purposes are routinely linked to identity theft, physical injuries, sexual harassment, extortion and child abuse, among others.

The speaker will not only discuss the impact of the spouseware/stalkerware industry in the cases of domestic surveillance. She will also address the links between these relatively inexpensive products and the products sold to the governments. Lastly, she will address the possible technical, policy, and legal mitigations against the proliferation and use of these tools. Eva Galperin has worked in security and IT in Silicon Valley and earned degrees in Political Science and International Relations. Her work is primarily focused on providing privacy and security for vulnerable populations around the world. To that end, she has applied the combination of her political science and technical background to writing privacy and security training materials and publishing research on malware in Syria, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Lebanon.

The LogicLounge is hosted by the CAV 2019 - the 31st in a series dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practice of computer-aided formal analysis methods. The event is organized by Daniel Schwartz-Narbonne, in cooperation with the VCLA of TU Wien, which is the traditional organizer of the event series in Vienna. The conference which is taking place July 13-18, 2019 in various rooms and auditoriums of The New School in New York City intends to connect with the general public in the wider New York area by hosting a public talk with Eva Galperin, the director of cybersecurity at Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which champions user privacy, free expression, and innovation through impact litigation, policy analysis, grassroots activism, and technology development.
